We wish you a very merry Christmas!

Spring FAB 2011

From the 26 - 27 Nov 2011 we attended the Spring FAB at the CTICC. Here is a brief run down on the event

We were situated on a door frame size area, but that didn't stop us from doing our thing. A HUGE thanks to everyone that popped by our stand it was great to see you all there.

Fun hotels to have your honeymoon in France!

France is known for it's chic fashion, refined culture and some of the world’s best cuisine. But there is a fun, kooky side to the country, and not just those fancy five-star old world hotels in Paris and beyond – these 10 stand out by being modern, artsy, quirky or downright bizarre without sacrificing comfort and style.

If you’ve ever looked longingly at a hamster cage and wished you could run on a wheel and drink out of a big bottle of water mounted to the wall, there’s a hotel in France just for you. La Villa Hamster has guest rooms designed to resemble hamster cages, complete with haystack beds and wrought iron wheels – including one in the lobby that actually works. To reach the traditional mattress in each room, you have to climb through a tube, and in the bathroom, you have your choice between a regular toilet or a bed of wood chips.

Our next wedding show

Come and visit us at the CTICC on 26 and 27 November 2011 for the Spring FAB!

It's going to be A Vintage Affair

A little bird told me that pink is the new black, that less is more and then black was the new black again! In this world of chop and change we need to go back to the drawing board once in awhile and see that old-school is new-school.
We came across A Vintage Affair at a wedding show and could not resist all the eye candy they had to offer.

Zevenwacht Mall Wedding Show

From 28 - 30 Oct 2011 we attended the Zevenwacht Mall Wedding Show, here is brief run-down on the event, and if you were not able to attend who was exhibiting there:

We were there, our stand was situated by the FNB and ABSA entrance, and of course we were selling the I Do Forever Wedding Journals. We had some great response, and cannot wait for our next show at the end of this month. Catch us at Spring FAB at the CTICC 26 - 27 November 2011

Functional Decor

We are loving the 'functional decor' trend, so we have put together some edible centerpiece ideas!

Another great alternative guest book idea

This was spotted in the YOU Weddings Spring/Summer 2011 #1

Guest Book Ideas

The wedding day guest book doesn't need to just be something that will be put on a shelf and forgotten about. See some other alternatives to the guest book. Have your guests write on pebbles that can be used as decoration later in your new home. Set up a photo-booth or have an instant camera avaliable where guests can create a 'scrapbook' of their wedding wishes and let them run wild with their own creativity! The options, as always, are endless!

Colour Inspiration - Black & White

Black and white will always be a true classic for a formal affair and bringing this theme into your wedding decor creates such an elegant statement.

Interesting Wedding Ideas

Everyone is looking for that little somethig different they can add to their wedding day to make it totally unforgettable. We have put together a selection of truely unique wedding ideas.

Honeymoon Registries

One of the major highlights of getting married (besides tying the knot with your soul-mate) is most definitely the HONEYMOON. Now-days we've all pretty much got all the household accessories already, so these great honeymoon registries that have popped up here and there are just perfect.

Featured Wedding - Christina & Brett Swart

We sat down Christina one of our editors and asked her all about her AMAZING WEDDING DAY.

Who's at your wedding and why?

They are all there, the master of ceremonies, the bridesmaids and the page boys, but what do they do exactly? here's a quick reference guide to your bridal party.

Master of ceremonies: Master of ceremonies or MC is the person you would like to be the host for your big day. Keep in mind the MC must be able to speak in front of a large crowd. The MC's tasks usually includes making a speech and introducing other speakers, telling jokes and keeping the event moving. Ensure the MC has a full copy of the order of events to keep him/her on track!

Colour Inspiration - Green

We know the fashion colour trend for this time is mostly muted colours, but that is so boring, so we looked outside for our colour inspiration.
The winter rains have started falling in the Western Cape, and as we stare out the window wishing to just go play outside, we start to realise that our whole world is turning green right before our eyes. After looking at the dry country side for so long and now seeing the intense green you can imagine you've transported into another part of the world.

Eco-Friendly Wedding

It used to be a trend, but now it's just obviously something we all need to take into consideration. Even if you don't apply 'green ways' to every aspect of your wedding, just take a few and apply it where it suits you best.
Here are just a few tips you can incorporate in your plans to have an eco-friendly wedding.

Looking after your bling

Here are a few basic tips for caring for your bling.

  • Keep your jewellery separate so they do not scratch one another.
  • Remove all jewellery when swimming, the chlorine will damage them.
  • Remove all jewellery when in the bath or showering, the soap causes a soapy film.
  • Protect from damage and remove when doing housework and gardening.
  • Have your jewellery checked and cleaned by a professional jeweller at least once a year.
  • Keep out of direct sunlight and fireplaces, as the heat can cause jewellery to fade.

THE 7C’s OF BUYING A DIAMOND

Our friends at Shimansky have supplied us with this useful information about buying a diamond! No one tells you these things before your big investment, so read up!

THE 7C’s OF BUYING HER DIAMOND

You may have heard of the 4C’s when it comes to purchasing diamonds. However, in spite of all that information, buying a diamond may still be confusing, especially when you are not sure how to apply that information. Yair Shimansky, jewellery designer at Shimansky Collection, brings you the 7C’s of buying the ideal diamond. These are tips tailored to help you buy the perfect diamond to cherish.

It might seem obvious to you but your shopping mission should begin with knowing what your lady actually prefers in a diamond. This will have an impact on which of the 7C’s should be a priority while you shop.

The 5 year plan

Well last Friday was Travis and I’s 5 year anniversary and yes of course we had a 5 year plan! Did we achieve it? Yes, no, maybe, but who cares we’re still married, in love and happy.
Here’s just a little advice I can give you after my 5 years experience.

Let them have cake!

The cake is definitely one of our favourite parts of a wedding!

We have put together a few just to wet your appetite.

An engagement story - Michelle Swart

One of our editors told us their engagement story, it went a little something like this...

I had been dating Travis for a few years already, we had travelled and worked in Dubai for a bit, moved from Durban to Cape Town and just started to find our feet. For my 21st birthday he had given me a key (weird - people get keys from their parents, surely). This key had been a 'normal' key which he obviously got a jeweller to doctor, by gold plating, adding a heart and engraving our nicknames into it. When he gave this key to me he told me to always keep it with me. I thought 'gee this is a big key to just carry around!'

Back to Nature
Natural palettes are making a muted statement this year with the cool blue of the ocean, soft tan of the beach and subtle purples and gold of sunsets perfect for summertime I Do's.

What's the contract about anyway?

We think it's good for you to know a few things about marriage contracts so take a look at BM Attorney's breakdown for us below.

Marriage Contracts Explained

An ANC stipulates which marriage system will apply to the prospective marriage, and therefore how the patrimonial consequences will be regulated.

In South Africa there are various options:

1.        Marriage In Community of Property

This regime will apply if parties fail to register an ANC before the date of the marriage. This system will cause the parties to share equally in all assets and liabilities, despite their contributions. Both parties need to consent to the other’s contractual affairs and both are liable in case of insolvency and both share a bad credit record. If the marriage be terminated, the parties will share all assets and liabilities on a 50/50 basis.
