Looking after your bling

Here are a few basic tips for caring for your bling.

  • Keep your jewellery separate so they do not scratch one another.
  • Remove all jewellery when swimming, the chlorine will damage them.
  • Remove all jewellery when in the bath or showering, the soap causes a soapy film.
  • Protect from damage and remove when doing housework and gardening.
  • Have your jewellery checked and cleaned by a professional jeweller at least once a year.
  • Keep out of direct sunlight and fireplaces, as the heat can cause jewellery to fade.
  • When dressing up for work or going out, put your jewellery on last as hairspray and make can damage your jewellery.
  • Do not wear too many chains together, as they can rub against each other and cause damage.
  • When working with food remove your jewellery as strong smelling foods can blemish the gold.
  • Try clean your jewellery at least once a month by using warm soapy water with a soft toothbrush or special cleaning product from your jeweller.
  • Wear your jewellery as often as possible as this keeps the metals bright.
  • Remove chains and bracelets when sleeping to prevent them from breaking.
  • Check your jewellery for loose stones to prevent from losing them.
