What to budget for

Having a budget is a good idea so you don't overspend. A wedding can be costly, but worth every cent when planned carefully. Don't be afraid to ask your family and friends for help. If you know someone creative, ask them to help with the flower arrangements or stationery. If you know someone with a cool car, ask them to drive you, people don't mind and you'll find they'll love to contribute towards your big day. (Just remember to thank them in your speeches).

Here's an idea of what you need to budget for:

  • Wedding planner / planning tools
  • Ceremony venue hire
  • Reception venue hire (you can also work out a deal with the venue to waver the venue hire if they do the catering)
  • Decor
  • Marriage officer
  • Legal fees
  • Stationery
  • Gifts & favours
  • Catering
  • Beverages (have a set budget in place and tell your venue manager to inform you or your coordinator when the budget is about to be reached so you can make an informed decision and avoid any surprises)
  • Wedding cake
  • Flowers
  • Transport
  • Wedding dress
  • Groom's attire
  • Bridal party attire
  • Wedding rings
  • Hair
  • Make-up
  • Photography (photographers can be very pricey, but these are the memories of your wedding day, be sure you feel comfortable with your photographer and they know your sense of style and they will be worth every penny)
  • Music / entertainment
  • Honeymoon
